Mark 8:34–35 (ESV)
“If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel’s will save it.”
Discipleship is costly. It means surrendering comfort, convenience, and control. But in losing our lives, we truly find them. Gracia Burnham reflected, “Martin didn’t die in the Philippines. He died years earlier at the altar when he surrendered his life to Christ.” Following Jesus begins with dying daily…and leads to life eternal.
What is one area of my life where God is asking me to surrender?
How can I embrace daily cross-carrying with joy instead of resistance?
Pray for the courage to deny yourself, take up your cross, and follow Jesus wholeheartedly.
Do something today that costs you…time, comfort, or convenience. For the sake of someone else’s good.
