The Work of the Disciplemaker
March: Faith Formed in the Ordinary
If you’ve ever walked away from a conversation with your teen thinking,
“Man… I hope I handled that well…”
You’re not alone.
More often than not, the moments that shape faith are the ones we never see coming. They look like late-night questions after you’re already in bed. Car rides after practice. A passing comment about something your teen saw online. Maybe even a quiet, “I’m not sure I believe that.”
Formation is constant.
And it’s happening a lot of times at home. (Yep — even right now.) This spring, as we move toward Easter and beyond, we want to slow down and pay attention to that reality together.
For the month of March, Axis will be focusing on helping parents step more fully and confidently into one of their most important callings: Disciplemaker — embracing the everyday ways faith is modeled, discussed, and lived out within the walls of your home.
Over the next several weeks, we’ll be moving through three essential conversations: how to awaken (or reawaken) wonder in a world that constantly demands, “Prove it”; how to help our teens navigate doubt and welcome wrestling with open arms instead of fear; and what it looks like to live out our faith in light of Jesus’ teaching in the Sermon on the Mount — not just in theory, but in the everyday moments of real life.
This Week:
Take a few quiet minutes to reflect on your role as Disciplemaker in your teen’s life. Ask yourself:
- Where might I be relying on control instead of trusting the Holy Spirit’s work in my child’s heart?
- What rhythms (prayer, Scripture, church, service) am I intentionally cultivating in our home? If none, where would I like to begin?
- When was the last time my teen saw me wrestle honestly with my own questions or doubts?
- What might it look like this week to prioritize connection before correction?
