Throughout time people have looked for answers to this ancient question. Humanity searches for god through religious rituals, personal practices, or complex philosophies. Sifting through experiences, thoughts, and opinions may prove challenging, and God reveals himself clearly through the Bible. As people of the book we can see who God is and how we can know Him as we read and study the Bible. Throughout all of Scripture God reveals himself to us as love (1 John 4:8,16), as light (1 John 1:5), and as spirit (John 4:24). The almighty creator of the universe has chosen to reveal himself to us and wants a relationship with us.
As we grow in our relationship with God we long to understand deeper who he really is. No truth of the church has been more shaping in our understanding of God than the Trinity. One God, three persons. The belief of the trinity permeates all Christian church communities whether, Catholic, Orthodox, or Protestant. With all of the disagreements among Christians, our belief in the Trinity is a unifying reality pointing us to the God who is. There is scarcely a doctrine that is not affected by the Trinity and countless time has been spent by Christians defining, redefining, and teaching the doctrine of the Trinity.
Some Christians practice worship of a generic God by not exploring the Trinity. Some churches skew worship towards the father through traditional rituals. Others lean towards worshiping the Son making it all about Jesus and excluding other persons in the trinity or negating the work of Holy Spirit. Yet other churches neglect the Father and Son and worship only the Holy Spirit by seeking first-hand experiences above all things. We want to worship God for who He is, and a fuller understanding will lead to deeper worship.
Some critics say Christians worship three gods instead of one and dismiss the idea of the Trinity. Christians who have meaningful conversations about God may feel stumped when unable to articulate a healthy theology of God’s character and identity. This series’ aim is to understand the vital core doctrine of the trinity and equip Fellowship people to explain it to their friends.
This series will not explain everything fully. God is knowable in relationship, but remains a mystery to fully explain. The Bible is the best example and illustration of God, there is not a perfect man-made illustration of the trinity…each illustration is mildly helpful at describing the trinity and perfectly fit to point out a heresy of the trinity.
